Attractions Ko Chang

Koh Chang is a large island situated off Thailand’s east coast, near the Cambodian border. Despite its substantial size, Koh Change is rather sparsely populated. Lately, though, there has been an effort to market the island as a tourist destination so it is beginning to be quite developed in terms of vacation accommodation. Relaxation, enjoying nature and spending time on the beach are still the main leisure activities, however, which make Koh Chang an ideal place to chill out with friends or family. Although there is also a wilder side as well, it is mainly confined to one area, Lonely Beach.

Nature

Part of the Mu Koh Chang National Park, Koh Chang is a place blessed with great beauty, from the many lovely beaches to the tropical rain forest covered mountains in the interior of the island. Trekking in the jungle, preferably with an experienced local guide, will reveal all kinds of natural wonders. Nestled in the hills you will find a number of gorgeous waterfalls. As a relatively unspoiled area, Koh Chang hosts abundant wildlife, most notably 61 species of birds. Observe elephants in their natural habitat, together with deer, wild pigs, rhesus monkeys and snakes. There is even an animal named for the island – the Koh Chang wart frog!

Cultural Attractions

The temple of Wat Salak Phet, which stands in the village of Ban Salak Phet, was built by former Thai monarch King Rama V. A war memorial monument may be visited at the island’s southern tip. Learn the secrets of traditional Thai cuisine at one of several local cooking schools.
