If you want a break from basking in the sun, head to the southern part of Koh Samui. There, you can visit the Bengal tigers and leopards in Ban Harn Beaches’ Tiger Zoo. If large, majestic felines aren’t your thing, you can check out the monkey shows (which also include trained elephants) or the snake farm. Another option is watching a water buffalo fight. For a calmer animal adventure, visit the butterfly garden, or the Samui Aquarium in Ban Harn beach. Here you will be able to discover a plethora of different types of marine life, including tropical fish, turtles, and corals, without needing to get wet. To see the animals up close, check out the large Bophut Elephant camp. Here you will be able to ride adult elephants, and watch and feed adorable baby elephants.

If you are more interested in humans than animals, try viewing a Thai boxing match. Alternatively, for a calmer, more meditative experience, visit some of Koh Samui’s Chinese temples, the best known of which is Wat Khunaram Koh Samui. You can also stop by the Old House, a Chinese house which, true to its name, is almost two hundred years old.

Water Sports

The most obvious thing to do in the water is go swimming. But once you have swum to your heart’s content, consider your other water options. For a serious total immersion experience, consider going scuba diving. There are plenty of diving schools on Koh Samui, and there is lots to see under the sea. For example, the seas around Koh Samui contain seascapes of underwater mountains and rock formations, hard and soft coral gardens, tropical fish, and even some whale sharks. Bophut Beach is one of the popular points of departure for diving tours. You can also view the underwater wonders by snorkeling. For fun adventures on top of the waves, you can go jet skiing, banana boating, water skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding, parasailing, canoeing, and even windsurfing.
