Beaches Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, off the southwestern coast in the Andaman Sea. A popular and beloved tourist destination, the island is well known for its outstanding beaches. Much of the vacation fun on Phuket centers around swimming, snorkeling, surfing or boating in the turquoise waters off these lovely stretches of white sand. Choose which beaches to visit depending on the activities and atmosphere you will most enjoy.

Patong

Patong boasts 3000 meters of beachfront and a dynamic atmosphere. As a lively party town, it boasts hundreds of restaurants and watering holes – some right on the beach itself – as well as go-go bars and discos. Although there are some quiet areas, in general Patong is suitable for young singles or couples rather than family groups.

Karon

Karon is more tranquil and features an even longer beach, with squeaky clean white sand, head for the northern end if you’re looking for a private and deserted beach.

Kata

Beautiful Kata Beach is bordered with graceful palm trees. Take your pick of water activities such as swimming, surfing or yachting and stock up at the convenient mini market. The shallow water makes this a great place to frolic with your kids. You can also stroll along a shaded road the length of the beach.

Kamala

Kamala has been described as the “perfect beach,” as its broad swathes of smooth sand allow plenty of room to stretch out in un-crowded comfort. Swim in the tranquil water or head for the north end for more action such as snorkeling. During monsoon season from May to October, watch for red flags, they announce when the high waves make swimming a dangerous activity to avoid.

Bang Tao

Bang Tao is among the longest beaches on Phuket, yet it’s also one of the quietest. Why? There is no beach road, with the result that this idyllic spot is used mainly by guests of the neighboring hotels. Bang Tao is for you if you’re looking for pure relaxation. Note that the water tends to be quite deep and in monsoon season, swimming can be risky.

Surin

Surin Beach is free from jet skiers. Try snorkeling in the crystal clear water, boogie boarding, kayaking or surfing. Beware of swimming during low season.
